The OBSBOT Tail 2 redefines the standards of live video production. As the world's first three-axis PTZR (Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Rotate) 4K camera, it combines broadcast-grade cinematic imaging, next-generation AI tracking, and a connectivity versatility rarely matched at this price point.

50MP sensor and 12-lens optics: a benchmark image quality

At the heart of the Tail 2 sits a 1/1.5" 50-megapixel CMOS sensor with 2µm pixels for optimal light collection, even in low-light conditions. The 12-lens optical system (including 3 aspherical lenses) ensures faithful colour reproduction and minimises chromatic aberrations. The camera captures up to 4K at 60fps and 1080p at 120fps for smooth slow-motion in post-production. The 5x optical zoom and 12x hybrid zoom bring distant subjects closer without perceptible loss of sharpness.

The All-pixel PDAF (phase-detection autofocus across the entire sensor) delivers ultra-fast focusing in virtually all lighting conditions. Three focus modes are available: standard versatile focus, face focus for human subjects, and foreground focus to automatically prioritise the closest subject.

PTZR: the rotation axis revolution

The Tail 2 is the world's first 4K camera featuring a true rotation axis (R) in addition to the standard pan, tilt and zoom axes. Its exclusive gimbal system allows the lens to rotate 90°, instantly switching to vertical mode — with no cropping, no resolution loss — in full 4K/60fps. A single tap is all it takes to go from landscape to portrait format, perfectly suited for social media, mobile broadcasts or dynamic displays.

The integrated auto-levelling system continuously detects the camera's tilt and automatically corrects the horizon, eliminating time-consuming manual adjustments. The advanced R-axis stabilisation achieves an angular vibration level of ±0.003°, ensuring professional-grade smoothness even in vibration-prone environments.

AI Tracking 2.0: intelligent tracking, enhanced precision

The Tail 2's second-generation AI tracking engine relies on a deep neural network for robust and accurate tracking across varied conditions. Key features include:

• "Only Me" mode: the selected subject is continuously tracked even if temporarily obscured by a similar obstacle.
• Group Tracking: the camera automatically adjusts framing to include all detected people in the field of view.
• AI Auto Framing: automatic reframing with dynamic zoom from 3x to 24x based on subject position and movement.
• Tracking speed control: fine-tune the camera's responsiveness to match the nature of the movement being filmed.
• Extended recognition: over 30 types of animals and 200 types of objects recognised, enabling use across a wide range of environments (sport, wildlife, events, education).

Gesture Control 2.0 enables touchless operation from the scene: activate tracking, adjust zoom, start recording — entirely through hand gestures.

Broadcast connectivity and professional protocols

The Tail 2 is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing production infrastructures. Its video output interfaces cover the full range of professional needs:

• 3G-SDI for broadcast transmissions
• USB 3.0 / USB-C (UVC, compatible with the vast majority of streaming and video conferencing software)
• Ethernet with PoE+ for power and network transmission over a single cable
• IP streaming (RTMP, RTSP, SRT)

NDI|HX3 support is natively built in on 2026 models, with no additional licence key required — enabling real-time network video transmission right out of the box, over both wired and Wi-Fi connections. Other supported protocols include FreeD (AR/VR production), VISCA, Pelco-D, Pelco-P and RS-232. HDMI, SDI, NDI and USB can all be used simultaneously.

The camera can be controlled via a WebUI interface accessible from any browser on the same network, with no software installation required. It is compatible with the OBSBOT Start, OBSBOT Live, OBSBOT Center and OBSBOT Talent applications for multi-camera setups.

Battery life, power options and mobility

The built-in 5,000mAh battery provides up to 5 hours of continuous recording, ideal for long-duration events and outdoor shoots. The camera can also be powered via PoE+ (a single network cable is sufficient) or via the USB-C port with PD 3.0 fast charging. Wi-Fi 6 connectivity ensures fast and stable wireless transfers for cable-free setups.

Weighing just 1.066kg, the Tail 2 features a standard 1/4" mounting interface and a dual-colour Tally light for multi-camera coordination. A Micro-SD slot enables local recording in full standalone mode.
